Oh dear.

Today we had to drive down to the southern portion of the island to pick up my sister-in-law (referred to as my “sister” from here, as she pretty much is more of a friend than an in-law) and my niece, so that we could get to the eastern point of the island. Our goal was to truly experience the full island on this trip, and my sister was our tour guide for this journey.

As it was a bit of a drive, sis decided to have us stop in the cute little villa of St. Peter’s Landing on the tip of St. Peter’s Bay, with it’s cute little shops, but most importantly, very clean bathrooms! Unfortunately, the antique shop that she was hoping to take us to, was no longer there. Regardless, it was a sweet little area and a welcome rest stop.

From there, we marched onto the East Point. As we plugged along, the ocean was starting to surround us, we could see the ferry on the skyline as it returned from Les Iles-de-la-Madeleine (where recently, a Great White Shark was tracked!), and the sky was bright and clear. In the distance, a lighthouse appeared on the horizon.

Cafe, Gift Shop and Light House!

Don’t know if this is cool or not.

A steep drop to red rocky banks and the lapping, angry ocean!

Looking into the eroding red cliffs of the eastern most point of the island.

Picnic lunch in the Atlantic seabreeze.

Culturally appropriating the fisher-folk traditional dress.

ARRRRRR!

After viewing and walking around and picnicing, it was only by chance that I caught a glimpse of fat ol’ Charles rolling in the water.

SEALS!!

After spotting this fine fella traipsing around, we started to spot potentially a few more seal in the water, poking their heads and bodies up out of the water for a few seconds at a time. Very difficult to get a picture of them, but they were indeed there. It was an exciting moment, as it always is to see uncommon creatures in their natural environment. With full bellies and hearts, it was time to hit the beach.

We landed at Basin Head Provincial Park, a gorgeous white sand beach with very cold water, and also home to the Singing Sands.

Turn on the volume to hear the magic!

Playing in the Atlantic Ocean!

Jellyfish in our water. How rude!

That’ll teach you.

Red cliffs looking awesome!

Looks like an adventure for me.

These rocks are not good on the feet.

Wreckage carbon-dated 2000 years.

Even older.

Don’t go people, there’s a shark where you are headed!!

Modelling for the blog. Before or after she got stung by a jellyfish.

After a great day on the beach, and only one jellyfish sting, we took my sister and niece home to sit down for a BBQ with my brother who was arriving home from work. A wonderful day to be alive!
