Today was going to be an exciting day. We were headed to Toronto of the west, Vancouver.

After a long drive across the Fraser River back, the city came sprawling across the horizon. Shades of Toronto in size, it was a more humble looking skyline.

We crossed over the Port Mann toll bridge with our middle fingers in the air (Come get us TReO. We live in Ontario, nerds!), and headed towards the monumetous Stanley Park.

On the way, we passed Rogers Arena, home of my beloved (dreaded) Canucks.

After avoiding some nutso downtown drivers, we turned into what appeared to be an immaculate and immense park area with trees spanning milennia under the cityscape.

We met up with Wendy’s friend and her family, where we walked along the seawall from Stanley Park to the Olympic Cauldron. Kathy and pretty much everyone were playing Pokémon Go along the way, as we took in the sites and grabbed as many Pokéstops as possible.

After wearing our shoes and kids out (in reality, the adults), we went back to the park for lunch and then walked a small decade around the park. My god, this park is friggin huge. There is an aquarium with dolphins and whales, totem pole displays, beaches, artisans, and merchants.

However, what stood out the most was the old growth.

After everyone was sufficiently burnt and aching, we called it the day and ran back to Chilliwack through the most horrific highway traffic west of Montreal. Infrastructure into the big city wasn’t of the best laid plans. Probably some hipster student.

Notes:

  1. Vancouver is a pretty city, even for an urban centre.
  2. Stanley Park is huge.
  3. The seawall is huge and has a bunch of Pokéstops.
  4. Trees here are very much unlike the trees in Ontario.
