Today we would lay off on the drive and spend time with family and take in the Calgary area.
With the amazing Rockies rolling in the background, Calgary is a picturesque city as much as it is an urban hub nor unlike Toronto.
One of the luxuries of a city built into the foothills of the mountains, was the many viewpoints and angles provided to overlook the skyline.
During one of the many photo’ing moments, the kids thought it would be a good time to pump out the K-pop (Korean boy/girl band music for the uninitiated) and dance on Nose Hill.
Laugh all you want, but these kids have the moves, and Ainsley has really improved her fitness and her chopstick skills.
We also managed to find another Giant Tiger as well as a shopping mall not unlike Vaughan Mills north of Toronto.
Really cool western-themed artwork and sculptures in the mall. I didn’t really take any pictures, because it was virtually identical to every mall in the east, except with even more bloated prices. A couple different stores than what we have, but nothing of note.
Although, the kids and I did love this place:
We did sample some local delicacies from Canmore:
We also almost bought some Saskatoon Berry lemonade syrup but passed when he told us the price.
We will be hitting West Edmonton Mall where there will be lots of pictures to I’m sure.
Liquor stores are widely available in the province and are privately owned. Some look pretty sketchy, but others are owned by sketchy corporations, so really nothing of note.
Mad represent:
We eventually sauntered home and had a wonderful BBQ supper with Kathy’s long lost cousins and uncle and fams. Also got to meet Ken’s ’64 Galaxie, his first ever car, still running, still intact.
We ended the night with a bout of karaoke. Yes, even I did karaoke.
Proof:
My solo rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by the King was stirring and emotional.
