F.A.Q.

Q. What makes you so special?

Well, the fact that you are here, discussing me, makes me special. Possibly short-bus special, but special none-the-less. If you are referring to why I have a web presence, it’s because I have taken the initiative.

Q. Yeah, but why do you feel your art is noteworthy?

Like any artist, I have taken the time to consider my pieces, and to deliver a message with them. Good art tells a story. I put a story into every piece of work. Heck, for 30+years, I have created a story for every day of my life and have learned to embrace it. Meanwhile, I have managed to work on a few skills, and a definitive style. That style I believe is unique and interesting, and tells different stories from a number of perspectives that can be appreciated by a vast number of people from all social circles and beyond. Plus my art takes no prisoner. I like to call it cutting edge, not for the weak-of-heart.

Q. What kind of works do you do?

I do everything. Mostly. I have created paintings, murals, tattoos, storyboards, concept art, comic books, children’s book, portraits, sculptures, graphics, logos, films, and so much more. I’m a traditional artist, a commercial artist, a graphics artist, and an illustrator. What I don’t do is animation. But that’s simply because I haven’t tried yet. So you can call me a jack-of-all-trades. (Some people call me other things too, but hey, whatevs.)

Q. What are your rates?

My rates are generally calculated on a per project basis. I AM expensive, so be prepared. That being said, quotes and dialogue are always free.

Usually, it is bad manners to post prices. Well, not really. Since when have I cared about manners? But I know how frustrating it could be, just looking around trying to get an idea of pricing, in general, from many artists. So, me, being the helpful person, will give you some ideas.

Generally, I charge $125/hr. (Yikes!)

An 8×10 portrait COULD cost you $200 or more.

A small 4×6 sketch COULD cost $25.

A 2×3 sketch card COULD cost $10.

A bedroom mural COULD cost $2000.

A single, full-colour comic book page COULD cost you $250. (If you are an independent creator.)

Again, these are general prices, and would be varied dependant on the scope of the project, the potential, the timeline, and the overall situation. Obviously, if you are McDonald’s Restaurant, these prices are on the low end. ;-)

Q. Can you draw me a tattoo?

I’d be happy to draw you a tattoo.

However, please bear in mind that there are certain limitations in regards to colours, shading, and detailing. Also, some tattoo artists may not be willing to “copy” another persons art (although most of their work is a duplication of pre-selected works). And oh yeah, it costs money! Not just for the tattoo artist, but for me. I regularly have people present to me all of these grand ideas, not realizing, or presumptively thinking I can do it for free. My time, materials, and abilities all come at a cost. It is a reality that I have 3 children and a wife to support, and as it is, my time is stretched thin, my materials are not free to me, and while I may work faster than the normal bear, there is a lot of preparation and research that has to be considered in most cases.

Keep in mind that tattoos are pricey, so consider the overall cost of having a tattoo designer as well as a tattoo artist working for you.

So, in all cases, because of the lack of commitment from potential customers and clients with grand ideas, I also need to request a deposit on any works I do. However, I believe in giving the best service possible, and communicate with you, and work with you the entire time. I’m not like other artists who would take your idea or request, disappear for a week than come back with something final where you have no input. I certainly don’t throw a hissy-fit if you don’t like what I present. You get your money’s worth!

Q. Can you work on renumeration or commission?

No, in most cases. I used to do that while trying to build a name for myself, helping small businesses and friends, I can no longer offer renumeration or commission of sales on any projects. I have spent a lot of time, materials, and money on projects that have very little potential of return, or have completely stopped. I, however, do consider all offers and will look into working within budget restraints on an individual basis.

Finally, there will always be a deposit. Always.
